Holy Name Recycles

Holy Name of Jesus School recently purchased new bleachers for our gym.  The old bleachers were taken apart and sent to Dauphin County Technical School.

Here the school was able to repurpose most of the wood.  The siding, windows, loft, floor, and trim of this building are all made from old gym bleachers that may have ended up for the landfill.  We were able to save this old growth, quarter-sawn fir.  The boards were ripped, planed, ship-lapped, and beveled the bleachers.  The building is not built the conventional way.  The structure is “Timber Framed.”  The students used mortise and tenon joints, spline joints, and half lap joints throughout the building process and reinforced the joints with wooden pegs.  The results is a shed similar to what would have been built 200 years ago.
